Recent Projects

Major U.S. Non-Profit: Evaluate various business units understanding of the IT organization with respect to process, sourcing, and budgeting.

Results: Enterprise and IT governance budget processes were not effectively taking risk and reward criteria into account in development of time and cost for projects and deliverables.  Developed a framework for portfolio planning to account for risk and reward within the IT budget, and allows IT and business stakeholders to better understand where and how the IT budget is spent. ROI* = $1.0M (minimum) in 2 years.

International Bank: Determine the roadblocks to effective IT implementation within Central America in delivering to new markets while addressing decreases in existing market share.

Results: Recent consolidation of IT resources and changes in supported business unit reporting structures created significant communication (including process) gaps. Changes in business approach were not adequately addressed by IT’s Strategic Plan, including the need to upgrade the technical architecture. Developed a modified organizational structure, with the CIO as Executive Sponsor, to better address and respond to the new needs of various business units.  An architecture/technology steering committee, sponsored by supported business units, was established to better understand and communicate how business requirements can be supported by technology, and how technology can enhance field processes and increase customer satisfaction (addressing decrease in market share).

State Health Care Organization: Develop an effective organizational model for multiple remote IT organizations reporting into a Chief CIO. Identify potential shared service opportunities, and within shared services standardize job descriptions to support movement of staff from one geographic region to another.

Results: Resources and funding levels varied significantly from one IT support organization to another leading to support of leading edge technologies in certain geographic locations, and “dated” technology with nominal support in others. Proposed a simple regional IT support structure with regional CIO’s reporting to a Chief CIO, and centralized request for modifications and build requests to leverage the varying knowledge and technologies within the Organization. Budget allocation was modified to update technologies throughout the Organization, with regional technology support groups cross trained to implement at a local level. ROI* = $450K (minimum) in 1 year.
